Romie

History: Born in Equatorial Guinea in approximately 1979 and she arrived at Mona in 2001). She was previously trained for the entertainment industry (circus, photographers, television etc ....). However her main role was to have babies who were quickly taken from her to start their humanisation process before being trained. She lived in the dark inside a small cage in the same truck as Marco, Toni and Charly.

Rest in Peace dearest Romie: As some of you might know, Romie lived at the sanctuary for nearly ten years. She was the matriarch of the group and Toto's companion. She has been through so much in her life having been used as a baby machine for a animal trainer who used chimps in the entertainment industry. After many years of legal wrangling we managed to reunite her with two of her babies Nico and Sara and she has lived with them ever since.

We will always remember her as our sweet Romie, and hope that over time the family will learn to live without her, as so will we. Once more we thank you for your support which has enabled her to live at MONA in what were surely the best years of her life.
