Africa

History: Africa was born in the wild in 1999 and arrived in Mona in 2009. After being caught in the wild she got shipped to Tenerife by boat where she was bought by a private owner living in his house for 10 years. Her teeth have not developed properly because she had a broken jaw when she was younger. She came to the sanctuary with severe skin problems probably due to inadequate treatment in her past. Because of 10 years living in between humans without contact to other chimps she is became much humanized and spoiled which made it very difficult in the beginning to create positive relationships with other chimpanzees. She has know made very good progress and has met all her family members. She should be fully integrated very soon.

Personality: She is very strong willed with a very spirited character (as itshould be for a proper chimpanzee). She is very livly, agile, fast and surprises us often as she can move quickly without making a sound.

Likes: She likes her daily bread in the morning to clean her teeth and loves yogurts with fruit flavors (except the ones she doesn’t know).
