Why we have a department of education

Children on a visit to the sanctuary. The Mona Foundation educational department wants to show everyone the world of primates , paying special focus and attention to chimpanzees . Our targeted audience for these educational visits are children and adolescence alike. To educate those generations  about the habitats of primates and chimpanzees.

Through  visits to the chimpanzees at the rescue centre and various games and activities we want children to have an insight to the world of primate behaviour .

The new quarantine facility is progressing very well!. We are very excited about AFRICA coming to the sanctuary. Miguel is working hard to get it ready as soon as possible.

Abu has been outside for a week now and he definitely prefers his new enclosure (clever boy!). Therefore all the macaques now have access to indoors and outdoors. Katy seems to be very stressed at the moment; she is trying to control everybody and she is exhibiting aggressive behaviour towards her carers. Titin is enjoying life at the moment, because he is no longer the focus of attention, so he has free access to food!.

The latest new enrichment for the chimps has been really successful : “oil therapy" The inside bedding was removed from their middle quarters. Cooking oil was poured on to the floor and also in a plastic box with hot water. The idea was to give them two enrichment activities together. Sliding in the oil and drinking the hot water with the oil. They enjoyed it very much and they now have shiny hair and very soft skin!!.
