There are many ways that you can help us in our mission to rescue primates suffering in captivity. Thanks to our supporters in the UK and Spain we have rescued many primates suffering in captivity but there are many more primates that still need our help.

Here is how you can get involved with us:

Become a member

As a member you will receive a membership pack which includes our welcome letter, an "Apes in Entertainment" information sheet, our bi-yearly newsletter, a car sticker and a membership card which gives you free entry into our primate sanctuary in Spain. You will also receive 10% discount on our working holidays.To download a pdf of our standing order form click here   pdf image

Adopt a chimpanzee

We have seven chimpanzees available for adoption: Toni, Juanito, Africa, Bongo, Toto, Nico and Sara. To download a pdf of our standing order form click here pdf image

Come and join us at the sanctuary for a short-stay volunteering holiday

Are you looking for a short get away yet that will help chimpanzees at the same time. What about joining us at our sanctuary near Girona in Northern Spain for a volunteering holiday that will change your life and help us rescue more primates in need. We are offering a unique experience where guests gain a wonderful insight into the daily lives of our rescued primates. We are one of the only primate rescue centres outside of Africa where you get the unique opportunity to experience working with chimpanzees and our barbary macaques.
During their stay, guests will be made to feel part of our dedicated team of primate caregivers and they will help out with every type of task involved in the daily care of our rescued primates. Guests can either stay in a hotel or youth hostel in the nearby medieval city of Girona and then spend from  two to four days working at the primate rescue centre. We offer placements all year round and guests can work with the chimps from 2-4 days and prices are as follows: 240 euros (2 days), 345 euros (3 days) and 440 euros (4 days) for one person, or 400 euros (2 days), 570 euros (3 days) and 720 (4 days) for 2 persons excluding flights & accommodation.

Long-term volunteer positions at our Sanctuary in Spain

The Mona Foundation depends heavily on volunteer helpers to continue its work. Volunteers are responsible for many of the tasks involved in the day-to-day care of primates at our sanctuary. We ask for a mínimum commitment of six months and in exchange for  your time and dedication, we offer volunteers a truly unique opportunity and training as a captive primate carer. Our sanctuary is one of few, if not the only one, to offer volunteers with no prior experience in this field, such an opportunity.  Thanks to this, our volunteers are well equipped with basic and practical primate husbandry knowledge.

So get involved and help us care for our primates.  For information on volunteer requirements and specific conditions at our sanctuary, consult the following web page:

Do you own a banger that’s merely gathering dust in the garage? Then you can do your bit for charity!

Giveacar is a UK based fundraising organisation that specialises in donating unwanted and scrap cars to charitable causes throughout the world, including MONA-UK.

They provide a FREE service which is available throughout the UK, and can work with you hand-in-hand in the following ways:

  • They can arrange the collection of the vehicle;
  • Depending on its age and condition, they can either send it for environmentally safe disposal and recycling at an Authorised Treatment Facility, or to a salvage auction;

This means that a large portion of the proceeds are donated to a nominated charity of the vehicle owner’s choice!

Since Giveacar was set up in 2010, the organisation has already raised over £450,000 for over 500 charities!

To arrange collection of a car, visit Giveacar.co.uk or call 020 0011 1664, quoting MONA-UK as your preferred charity.
