MONA has been asked by CITES in Madrid to rescue and re-home AFRICA, a 10 year old female chimpanzee being held illegally at a private house in Gran Canaria.
She was taken from the wild only 10 years ago and smuggled to Gran Canaria where her current owners bought her at the harbour. It is likely that her entire family would have been killed during her capture.
AFRICA urgently needs our help as she is being kept in a tiny cage on the owner’s terrace. Africa the chimpanzee reaching out from her rusty cage.
She is allowed into the house and treated as a human child but it is just a matter of time before she hurts someone, which puts her life at risk. As you can see from the photo she has patchy hair and sores on her head which are caused by her compulsively plucking her own hair through boredom and stress.
We need to raise a total of £9,500 to build a quarantine facility where she can be housed for three months before her introduction to her new family.
Please help us today so that we can rescue her as soon as possible. You can donate by either sending a cheque to us at MONA-UK, PO Box 372, Cambridge, CB1 3XQ (please ref AFRICA so that we can direct the funds appropriately) or you can donate on-line at: http://www.justgiving.com/mona-uk-rescueafrica .
Thank you very much for your support!
