The good news is that we have rescued a 14 years old female barbary macaque called Fez. She was living alone in a cage at the terrace of a private owner in Torroella de Montgrí (Girona, Spain). Neighbours reported this situation some years ago to various animal welfare organizations. Unfortunately we are not in position to take in a new macaque at the moment so together with FAADA we have organised that she will live with a small group of macaques at the "Wildlife care centre Karpín-Abentura” at Bilbao. Ats you may remember his is not the first time that Karpín, FAADA and MONA have worked together. We worked Karpin to rescue of Chafi, back in 2010, a macaque that used to live in the hole of a wall of a barbecue on a balcony. Fez's rescue has been particularly complicated. Two years ago Stichting AAP offered to rescue and transfer this animal to their rehabilitation center in the Netherlands. FAAD helped by making an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and their wild fauna staff convinced the owner to voluntarily give up Fez. But due to the delay of the administration to provide permission for the transfer to the Dutch center, Fez's destination will be finally Northern Spain. Fez is a currently living at MONA's but we will soon have the results for her checkup, that took place wih the collaboration of the Veterinary Hospital el Vellmarí (Lloret de Mar) and then she will be transferred to Karpín. We are very happy that Fez will finally be tliving for the rest of her life with her next of kin, finally in a social group.
