We are very happy to announce that ITV1’S This Morning programme are planning to show Africa’s rescue. There will be two films made by ITV featuring Africa’s rescue and our patron TV vet Dr. Scott Miller joining our rescue team. We will let you know the dates nearer the time. For supporters who have been following Africa’s progress, here is an update from Charlotte Abrahams, a volunteer at our sanctuary in Spain: Its almost a year since Africa arrived at MONA and the changes to her appearance and temperament are amazing. When she arrived her skin condition prevented hair growth on her head but now thanks to lots of natural sunlight, a good healthy diet and the application of aloe vera cream it has almost disappeared and she now has a good head of chimp hair. She's looking very pretty! The last few months have been difficult for her having to learn that in the chimp world there are hierarchies and at Mona she can't be the first to get everything. A tough lesson when you've spent nearly 12 years being treated as a child. For her first 6 months with us she had a separate room away from the main chimp bedrooms to keep her calm and undisturbed by the rowdier members! Some days it was difficult to get her to go outside or even into the adjoining room and any attempts were met with displays and spitting. In these last two weeks we've found the opposite! Africa is so happy outside and has no fears of what challenges the day will bring. We really have to encourage her to come in for dinner with an apple or two. |
